Fourth straight victory for ARIS (2-1)

Friday, 22 July 2011, 00:08

ARIS managed to register a fourth straight victory this time 2-1 over play-off rivals Olympiakos Volos and now everything is wide open going into the final games for both clubs. Sakis Tsiolis’ side bossed the first half completly missing chance after chance but just couldn’t break the deadlock through Neto, Toja and Bobardilla. Of course the law of football would strke again and on 32 minutes Solakis won a penalty for the visitors after a mistake by Ronaldo and Bellidis and Oubidez converted the spot-kick to put the visitors ahead. The second half continued where thay had left off and within minutes they had equalised through Portiga in the 49th minute and went ahead through Neto in the 57th. Earlier referee Kako had ruled out a blatant Aris goal for a foul inside the area. Soon after the referee turned down a penalty for Aris and in the 77th minute Mitchell missed a golden chance to put the game to bed and stop the nerves jangling. That meant that the home fans had to endure a nail-biting finish to the game with Bellidis denying the visitors twice in the closing stages.  In injury time hearts would flutter again as Volos hit the bar through Oubides when two visiting players were stood in offside positions. After the final whistle Jakobovic received a red card from the referee but Aris ran out victors and will now play a final against Xanthi next week.
